Conclusions from my audience research:

  1. From my audience research, I can conclude that the majority of the people I asked preferred a bold colour scheme for my magazine in order to ensure it was eye-catching and stood out from the rest.

  2. Also, I can see that a contents page with more pictures is more popular than a contents page with more text than pictures on the page. I preferred this contents page anyway because it is more creative and appealing to look at.

  3. Overall, the audience would have preferred the minimum amount of text on the page, however they believed that too little text would cause the reader to be un-engaged in the article if it was just pictures. They also thought it would lower the quality of the magazine and make it appear immature.

  4. My audience was split over a long-shot for a cover photo and a medium-long shot; I prefer a medium-long shot because you can see some of the outfit of the person but the main focus is on their face.

  5. The feedback from my audience also showed me that a Masthead in bold, capital letters in Serif because it is more fitting with the genre (indie-rock) and more appropriate for the target age range.

Here's how I'm going to implament my findings into my magazine:

I plan to use my network of friends to ensure I have the right person to photograph for the cover shot of my magazine; it is helpful that their existing style of dress refects the type of music that will feature in my magazine. I will also consult my friends through the process of making my magazine to make sure that the magazine is reflecting the views of the people that it is aimed for as well as continuously taking their feedback on board.  when i am near to finishing my magazine, I will conduct and audience research again to make sure that my magazine is as good as it can be; this will also allow me time for any last minute changes to my magazine.

How I plan to conduct audience research:

For my audience research, I plan to create a questionnaire with questions that will be relevant and help me formulate my magazine. After I’ve created my survey, I will send 5 people (with similar music interests as myself) versions of the questionnaire via iMessage, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. The reason I’ve chosen to send out my survey on Social Media is to ensure that I appeal to the ages of the people I am surveying as well as it being easier to record the information on a device that I often have on my person (my phone) .After this information has been collected, I will create one final Word Document with the records of my results; this will be easy to refer to as well as and I’ll have access to it at home and school.

In my survey I hope to find out: What colour schemes would you prefer, bold (red, grey and black) or fairer (light blues and pastel colours)?, What contents page do you prefer?, Would you prefer more text or more pictures on the cover page?, Would you prefer a close-up or full length photo on the front cover?, Do you think that the masthead should be in Serif or Sans Serif?, What fonts looks the most appealing on the cover of a magazine?, What magazine masthead do you prefer? and What magazines, out of the options below, which magazine front cover do you like the most and why?

Mood Board

I chose to base my magazine on Indie Rock because, after carrying out some research on current magazines, I noticed a large gap in the market for that genre of music. Not only this, but my magazine was heavily influenced by my specific taste in music. I pride myself on the fact that the music I listen to isnt mainstream and not many people are familiar with some of my favorite bands. Music has been a large part of my life ever since I can remember and I find all genres of music facinating even if I dont listen to them on a regular basis.

I prefer to listen to Alternative genres becuase I feel the lyrics of band such as The 1975, are relatable and their songs not only talk about issues that most pop bands shy away from; but speak the truth about them. For these reasons I chose to base my character, 'Jodie Jones',  on an Indie/Rock style as I knew I could use my knowledge of music, past and present, to be really enthusiastic about creating my magazine and putting as much effort into it as possible.
